My attempt to quietly leave a bad date ended with a fire alarm

I was at a little Italian place in Cincinnati trying to slip out to the restroom and just not come back, but I accidentally leaned on the emergency exit bar thinking it was the bathroom door. The alarm was so loud, and the whole restaurant stared as I stood there holding the door open. What's the most public way you've ever had to end a bad situation?

Oh man, that's brutal, a fire alarm is the ultimate attention grab. I once had to fake a phone call from a sick pet to get out of a date, but I did it right at the table so everyone heard my whole fake conversation. It felt so obvious and dumb. Your exit was way more final, at least you got a clean break with no room for follow up texts. That alarm probably felt like the universe agreeing it was time to go.

Read a story where someone pulled the fire alarm on purpose to end a bad meeting. Makes you wonder how often that happens.
