Bought a $6 rubber doorstop from Ace in 2016 and it saved me from a super awkward moment last week
I grabbed this cheap wedge at the Ace Hardware on 5th back when I moved into my first place, mostly because my bedroom door never latched right and the landlord did not care. Fast forward to last week, my girlfriend's parents stopped by unannounced while I was in the bathroom with the door that does not lock. That little $6 rubber wedge was already jammed under the bathroom door from when I used it to prop it open for airflow, and it stopped her dad from walking right in on me. I have bought fancier stuff that broke in a week, but this dumb chunk of rubber has earned its keep. Anyone else have some random cheap thing from years ago that ended up mattering way more than it should have?
Man, I always figured cheap stuff was just cheap stuff that would break on you. But hearing how a six dollar wedge saved you from the worst possible moment with her dad actually makes me see it different. Guess the price tag has nothing to do with how much something ends up mattering.
