A bird decided to redecorate my wiring harness

I had a nav light that would not stay on. After checking all the wiring and connections, I found a bird's nest tucked in the wing root. The bird had yanked some wires loose to build its nest. I cleared it out and fixed the wires, and now everything works fine.

Like @thomaspatel said, fire risk is real, so clear nests fast.

Birds using human-made stuff for nests isn't new, but picking live wires shows a bird's bold move. I've seen sparrows use plastic bags or string, but copper wiring is next level. The insulation probably felt like good nesting material, but it's a real fire risk. Good thing you found it before something important got fried.

My buddy had a nest in his attic built from chewed up electrical wires. Those birds stripped the insulation right off for the copper inside. It shorted his upstairs lights and almost started a fire. He had to pay an electrician a few hundred to rewire the whole section. This stuff is no joke, and waiting to clear a nest is just asking for trouble. Birds see shiny wires as free bedding, but it turns into a real dangerous mess.
