Wasted $340 on a smoke machine to find a vacuum leak, a $2 cigar worked better
Back when I started out I dropped $340 on one of those pro smoke machines thinking it would solve every mystery leak. The old guy two bays over just lit a cheap cigar, blew the smoke into the intake, and found the cracked hose in about 40 seconds. What dumb tool did you buy early on that you never touch now?
Bought a fancy electronic stethoscope kit for chasing noises, the kind that comes in a plastic case with six different probes I still can't tell apart. Used it maybe twice before I figured out a long screwdriver pressed to my ear does the exact same thing for nothing. The cigar trick works because the smoke is thick and you can actually see where it gets pulled in, no batteries or settings involved. What made you finally stop grabbing the smoke machine and just keep a pack of cigars in your bottom drawer instead?
