The mystery of the quieted squeal on a 2007 Camry
A guy brought in his Camry last month with a front end squeal that sounded like a dying animal. He said it started about three weeks ago and was getting worse. I checked everything, but the pads and rotors looked fine. Turned out a tiny rock was wedged between the dust shield and the rotor, and it finally worked itself loose after I took the wheel off. Anyone else ever have a noise that just vanished once you got the car in the air?

That "tiny rock" story sounds like a total fluke to me.

Totally a fluke, no question about it. Reminds me of that time my cousin found a twenty in an old coat, pure random luck. These things happen once in a blue moon and then people act like it's some kind of rule. Makes you wonder how many boring stories we never hear about.

My uncle worked in construction for thirty years and saw small rocks cause major damage at least four times. It's not just a fluke, it's about force and speed. A tiny thing moving fast can hit with a ton of energy. We only hear about the big hits, but the risk is real every day. Calling it pure luck misses the whole point of how physics works.
