Just hit 2,000 flat tires patched in my career and honestly that number feels a bit heavy...

I was cleaning out my old toolbox in the garage last night and found a shoebox full of the little rubber plugs from patch kits, which got me counting, and now I'm just thinking about all those roadside calls and busted Saturday plans.

Two thousand is a big number, sure, but is it really that heavy? A flat tire is just a flat tire, a quick fix and then you move on. Keeping a box of old plugs seems like holding onto clutter more than memories. Maybe it's just a job, and the only story is that stuff breaks sometimes.

Man, that's a REAL number right there. Two thousand flat tires is a whole history of bad days and interrupted trips. I bet each one of those plugs is a story, like that time you got a nail right before a big trip or shredded a sidewall on a back road. Finding that box must have been a trip down memory lane, and not all good ones. That's a lot of Saturdays lost to fixing flats.

Oh man, @benclark, you're right about the stories. My buddy found a box of his old plugs and one was all chewed up. Turned out it was from a flat he got deep in the woods, and he had to use his multitool pliers because his real ones were back in the truck. That single plug took over an hour of fighting just to get it in.
