The customer who watched me work for 2 hours straight
I was doing a rear quarter panel replacement on a 2018 Honda Civic in Denver last Tuesday and this older guy just stood in the bay doorway watching me the whole time without saying a word. Finally he said "you missed a spot on the inner wheel arch seam sealer" and he was totally right. How do you deal with customers who hover right over your shoulder while you're trying to work?

I read that some people do this because they're former techs and just can't stop themselves from checking the work.

Oh man, "you missed a spot" is brutal when you know they're right! I had a guy do the same thing while I was detailing a car once, just stood there staring at my work for over an hour without saying a peep. It's super annoying but I guess some folks just want to make sure they're getting their money's worth, even if it comes off a little creepy.

Wait, over an hour? Like he just leaned against a wall and watched you the whole time? That's a whole other level of weird. I had a lady stand over my shoulder while I was fixing her breaker box, and even that made my skin crawl after ten minutes. An hour of silence and staring would have me checking for hidden cameras or something, man. Sounds like that guy had way too much free time on his hands.
