Tip: How I finally beat the airport traffic at ATL by 30 minutes

I used to always take I-85 south to the airport and get stuck right before the terminal drop off. Last month I tried a different route and it saved me so much time. I went through the College Park exit and used the cell phone lot entrance instead, then looped around to the domestic terminal. It cut my drive from 45 minutes to just 15 minutes. Has anyone else found a faster way to get to the airport from the north side?

Oh man, that College Park loop is a lifesaver. I used to sit in that same I-85 mess forever until a buddy told me to take the exit for Virginia Avenue and cut through the old Hapeville backroads. You come out right near the rental car center and bypass most of that terminal backup. I shaved off about twenty to twenty-five minutes on a busy Friday once, it was wild how smooth it was. Your route sounds even better though, I might have to try that cell phone lot trick next time.

Yeah my buddy tried cutting through on that cell phone lot route once. Said he almost missed his flight because the lot was packed and he had to circle three times before finding a spot. But he still made it faster than sitting on 85. The trick is knowing exactly where you're going before you leave. Once you've done it a couple times it's smooth sailing. I'd still take that over sitting in terminal traffic any day.

Oh wow, I gotta say I was totally skeptical of those backroad shortcuts (thought they were just old wives' tales for traffic). But you're making me rethink that Hapeville route - I always figured it'd be a gamble that adds time, not saves it. The way you break down the timing near the rental car center makes me want to try it next time I'm stuck on 85.
