Just realized the best way to see the city is from a random MARTA bus route

Last Thursday, I got on the 816 bus in Decatur by mistake instead of the 6. I ended up riding through neighborhoods near East Lake I'd never seen, passing a huge community garden and a tiny record shop. It turned a frustrating mix-up into a cool, free tour of a part of Atlanta I always drive right past. Has anyone else found a neat spot just by getting on the wrong bus?

Getting on the 102 bus by accident last year showed me three different taco places in one mile. @mila_brown10 is right about Buford Highway, that's a whole different world from a bus window. My rule now is if I mess up my route, I just ride it out for a few stops. You see the real city, not the one from the interstate.

Ever read that article about how tourists miss the best parts of cities by sticking to transit apps? Your rule proves it, just letting a wrong turn show you the actual neighborhood. More people should try getting a little lost on purpose.

That "free tour" idea is so true. I always thought getting on the wrong bus was just a waste of time. But last month I was trying to get to the mall and ended up on a bus going down Buford Highway. I saw like five new food spots I never knew were there, this little bakery with a huge line out the door. Now I go there every weekend.
