Heads up about those cheap 'smart' telescope adapters

I dropped $80 on one last month and it fried my camera's USB port, not just the adapter. Has anyone found a brand that actually works without risking your gear?

Check the power output specs on your camera's port before buying anything. A lot of those adapters pull way too much current for what the port can handle.

Yeah, the part about adapters pulling too much current is so real. I used to just buy the cheapest USB-C hub for my old camera. Fried the port in like a month because it was always trying to draw power for an external drive. Now I always check the manual's power specs first, it's saved me so much hassle.

Tell me about it, @jana_scott. I learned that lesson the hard way trying to power a portable monitor from my laptop's USB-C port. The screen flickered like a strobe light for a week before the port just gave up completely. Now I treat power specs like the holy grail before plugging anything in.
