Took 2 hours to replace a light switch, electrician did it in 12 minutes
I spent a whole Saturday afternoon fighting with a dimmer switch in my Dallas apartment, watching YouTube tutorials and tripping the breaker twice. My neighbor's cousin came over and had it wired in like a pro, so now I'm wondering if I should just call someone for every electrical thing from now on. Anyone else waste way too long on a simple home fix before giving in?

I finally stopped beating myself up after I spent three hours swapping a faucet and still had a drip. Turns out I forgot the plumber's tape, and the next day a buddy did it in ten minutes flat. My rule now is simple: if it involves water or sparks, I call someone. I'll still try painting, changing filters, or fixing a squeaky door, but anything that could burn down my place or flood my neighbor's, I'm out. You learn real quick which jobs are worth your Saturday and which ones just cost you more in pizza and frustration. Honestly, that electrician's 12 minutes probably saved you a headache next time too.

Kind of disagree here. I don't think the goal is to avoid all water and sparks, it's to know your own limits before you turn the water off. I've done plenty of plumbing that took me two tries and a trip to the hardware store, and I still saved a hundred bucks. The drip is annoying but it's not the same as flooding a wall, and that's where I'd draw the line.
