I saw a post yesterday that totally missed the point of asking a clear question

Someone asked 'what's the best way to fix a thing?' without saying what the 'thing' was or what was broken. It was on a forum in Portland, and it got zero helpful replies (just guesses). I think a lot of people forget to give the basic details, like the model number or a photo, which makes it impossible for anyone to give a real answer. What's the most important detail you need to see in a post before you can even try to help?

A clear photo of the broken part usually tells me everything I need.

Back when I used to fix old tube radios, the serial number on the chassis was the key. Without that, you were just guessing at the wiring diagram. I still see folks asking about their "brown radio" online, and it's the same problem.

But what if the photo just shows a blurry brown radio, @mark_mitchell?
