Appreciation post: I find old movie CGI has more charm
New effects seem too slick and fake to me. Am I off or does anyone else feel this way?

Oh man, this reminds me of seeing Jurassic Park in theaters. Those dinosaurs felt so real because they were mostly practical effects, big robot puppets you could almost touch. Now when I see a CGI creature, it moves too perfectly, like it's floating without any real bones inside. That weight Reed mentioned is totally gone. The old stuff had limits you could feel, and that made the magic work harder.
