Switched to a fixed-gear bike 6 months ago and my commute dropped by 8 minutes

I got tired of my gears slipping on the hill near 42nd Street. A friend suggested I try a fixed-gear setup, and I finally did it back in March. Now I'm faster and I don't have to fiddle with derailleurs ever again. Has anyone else seen a big time change after switching bike styles?

Did your friend grease their chain or just send it?

Feel for your friend, that's a rough spot to be in. I've definitely been there where you just want to get out and ride and skip the prep work. Hope they made it back without too much noise or damage.

Man it's wild how skipping the small stuff can screw everything up, not just with bikes but with literally anything! I've seen it happen a hundred times where people rush past the boring bits and then wonder why things fall apart later. It's like that old saying about an ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure - just takes a few minutes to save yourself hours of headache.
