My garbage disposal started making a horrible grinding noise yesterday afternoon, and after a quick YouTube search I found a quarter stuck in the drain trap.

Has anyone else had luck with the simple trick of using a hex key to manually turn the disposal from underneath to free up a jam, or should I just call someone?

Did you already try hitting the reset button on the bottom of the unit? Sometimes that little red button trips before the motor really struggles.

Tried it twice. The button clicks but the motor still won't turn over. It's getting power to the unit, just no action. Might be the capacitor or a seized bearing.

Notice how often the simple fix is the first thing we try. We all hope for that easy button click solution to bigger problems. Reality usually needs a bit more work.
