Update: I was walking through the old section of Greenfield Cemetery last week and noticed a massive white oak with a perfect union graft from a repair done maybe 50 years ago.

It made me wonder how many of you have seen historical pruning or cabling work that's still holding up strong decades later, and what techniques from the past we might have lost.

My grandpa's apple orchard has these gnarly old grafts from the 60s that still produce. Makes you realize how much solid craftsmanship just gets forgotten over time.

Tried grafting some heirloom varieties onto new rootstock last spring. Got three to take using the old whip-and-tongue method.

My grafts never last... unlike @robert_lopez64's grandpa's.
