Just dropped $300 on a new climbing rope and it's already fraying
Got it for a big silver maple removal job last week, and after just three climbs I can see the sheath starting to separate near the splice. I thought I was buying quality, but now I'm worried about the core. Anyone else have a rope fail this fast?

Stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer for a warranty claim.

Man, check your carabiner and rope bag for burrs. I've seen a tiny metal shaving from a gate or a sharp bit of plastic in a gear bag absolutely shred a new rope's sheath in just a few passes. It acts like a little saw blade every time you feed the rope through.
