Why does nobody talk about how easy it is to miss subbed dialogue?

I was watching Attack on Titan for the third time last month and realized I'd been reading the subtitles wrong the whole time. I always focused on the bottom of the screen and missed half the action... then my buddy pointed out I was skipping every other line of text. Turns out I was reading one line then glancing away during the second line. It took me 60 episodes to notice because nobody ever said you gotta keep your eyes locked on the subs. Has anyone else had that weird moment where they suddenly got how subtitles actually work?

Same thing happened to me with the exact same show.

@emmag22 wait which episode was it for you? the one that really got me was season 3 episode 7 where they had that whole thing with the dog. felt like the writing just fell off a cliff after that moment. like you said, exact same show and exact same feeling of being let down. i still think about how different it could have been if they just kept the original pacing from season 1.
