Viz official subs changed a line I thought I knew for 10 years

Was rewatching an old episode of Gintama last week and noticed a joke in the official Viz subs that didn't match the fan translation I remembered. I went back to the fansub I had saved and sure enough, the punchline was completely different. Turns out the fan version added a local pun that wasn't in the original Japanese at all. Has anyone else ever caught a major difference like that between official and fan subs, or am I just late to this?
