Took me 8 months to realize I was watching One Piece in the wrong order

Started One Piece last year and got about 300 episodes in before I found out I skipped all the movies and specials that tie into the main story. Turns out the fan wiki has a whole watch order list that mixes episodes with like 15 movies. Has anyone else messed up their first watch through of a long series like that?

Oh man, I used to be one of those people who thought watching order didn't matter that much, you know? Like just start from episode one and you're fine. But I watched Bleach completely wrong the first time. I skipped all the filler arcs and then realized later that some of the movies actually reference stuff from those arcs. It totally changed my mind about how important a proper watch order is. Now I always check the fan wikis or subreddit guides before starting a long series. One Piece is a beast though, so I can see why you got mixed up with all those movies and specials.

The 300 episode mark is rough, I wouldve been so frustrated finding that out that far in. I used to think watch order was overhyped, just watch what comes next, right? But hearing about the movies and specials actually tying into the main story definitely changes my mind on that.
