Took me 3 rewatches of Cowboy Bebop to finally get the ending right.
I kept skipping the 'Real Folk Blues' parts thinking it was just filler. My buddy Jake caught me doing it during a watch party and called me out hard. He said the whole show builds to those two episodes and I was missing the point. Rewatched them alone last night and it hit me like a truck. Anyone else ever skip the wrong episodes because you thought they were side stories?

See I'm gonna push back on this one a little. Calling those episodes filler makes me wonder if you just wanted the action scenes and skipped the heart of the show. The whole point of Bebop is that every character is running from something real and those last two episodes finally force them to stop running. Spike's whole story is a slow motion trainwreck that you can see coming from episode one if you pay attention to the melancholy vibe. Skipping Real Folk Blues is like skipping the last chapter of a book because you think the ending will be boring. How did you feel about the rest of the show before you finally watched those episodes?

Totally get what you're saying about the melancholy vibe from the start. Read an interview once where Watanabe talked about how he always wanted Spike's story to feel like a long, sad song ending exactly how it had to. Those last episodes finally let that song finish, for better or worse.
