Skip the filler episodes on a first watch, it fixes the pacing problem and nobody can convince me otherwise
I used to force myself through every single episode of a long shonen series because people online said you have to respect the whole thing. Last spring I started One Piece and got stuck around episode 130 for almost two months, just staring at my queue without pressing play. Then my brother told me to look up a filler list and jump straight to the canon arcs, so I skipped about 40 episodes in the Alabasta stretch alone. I finished 200 episodes in six weeks instead of the year it was taking me. The story made way more sense because the momentum never died. Some folks will say you are cheating yourself, but I think a first watch should hook you, not test your patience. How do you all handle filler on a long series, do you skip it or push through?
My buddy did the exact same thing with Naruto last year, got to episode 80 something and just died inside watching the filler where they're chasing some random bug or whatever. His girlfriend pulled up a filler guide on her phone and he binged the whole thing in like two months after that. He said skipping that garbage was the only reason he made it to Shippuden at all. The pacing thing you mentioned is real too, once you cut the side quests the main plot actually moves and you stay hooked. People act like watching 200 episodes of filler builds character or something but it just builds resentment.
