PSA: binging dub then switching to sub will mess up your brain
I watched all of Attack on Titan dubbed for 3 seasons. Then last week I started season 4 subbed because the dub wasn't out yet. By episode 3 I realized Eren sounded like a completely different character - angry kid vs tired soldier. It totally wrecked my immersion and I had to restart the whole show. Has anyone else had this problem jumping between versions mid-series?

@the_wren nailed it with that stunt double comparison... that's exactly what it felt like when I tried switching mid-series with Code Geass. Watched half the show dubbed because that's how I found it on Adult Swim, then the rest subbed when I caught up. Lelouch went from this smooth, calculated voice to something way more high-pitched and I just sat there thinking "who is this guy?" My brain kept waiting for the other voice to come back and it never did. Had to sit through the whole thing feeling like I was watching a bootleg version of a show I already loved. Restarting was the smart move on your part, saves you that constant mental static of comparing the two voices every scene.

Tbh my buddy tried that with Attack on Titan and kept complaining that Eren sounded like a completely different person. Took him three episodes before he gave up and restarted the whole thing, @terryk28.

Oh man, "angry kid vs tired soldier" is such a perfect way to put it. I did the same thing with a different show and it was like my brain short-circuited for a solid week. You basically have to pick a lane and stick with it, because your brain builds a whole persona around the voice you hear first. Switching feels like finding out your childhood friend was replaced by a stunt double and nobody told you. Honestly, I respect you for actually restarting instead of just powering through confused like I did.
