Everyone says to watch the 'big three' first, but I think that's wrong...
So I kept seeing posts telling new people to start with Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach. I tried that last year, got through about 50 episodes of Naruto, and just felt overwhelmed and kind of bored with the pacing. Everyone said to push through, that it gets better. Instead, I did the opposite and asked my friend for the shortest, most complete story she knew. She told me to watch 'Cowboy Bebop', all 26 episodes. I finished it in a week. Having a clear start and end, with no filler, made me actually understand why people love anime. It was a full story, not a huge commitment. Now I tell other newbies to ignore the 'big three' rule and find a short, acclaimed series first. Has anyone else had a better experience starting with a short series instead of a long one?

Got lost in the first hundred episodes" is so real... my cousin tried to get me into a long series once and I just ended up watching the movie version summary on youtube instead.

Totally agree with you on this. I tried starting with One Piece and got lost in the first hundred episodes. Watching something like Death Note first gave me a complete story that actually got me hooked. The big three can feel like homework before you even understand the appeal.
