Old timer told me to skip the backup battery, now I'm second guessing everything
A guy with 30 years in the biz said backup batteries are a waste because most clients never test them, but I've had three systems go down this month during power outages. You guys still installing batteries on every residential panel or picking your spots?

Used to skip them on half my installs but then got burned on a house where we had to redo everything because the controller died without a graceful shutdown. Now batteries go on every panel, no exceptions.

Put a battery on every single one. That old timer might have 30 years but he's also got 30 years of bad habits. Three systems going down in one month isnt bad luck, its a sign you need to change your ways. A battery is cheap insurance compared to the cost of showing up to a dead controller and a pissed off homeowner. I learned that lesson the hard way and now I dont take chances. Skip the battery, skip the sleep.

Did you end up having to eat the cost on that redo or did the homeowner help cover it?
