This old guy at the hangar in Tucson showed me a trick with safety wire

It was about 15 years ago, and I was struggling to twist a piece on a stubborn bolt. He walked over, took the pliers, and said, 'Kid, you're pulling too hard. Let the tool do the work.' He did this smooth, even twist with almost no force. I still think about that every time I reach for the spool. Anyone else have a simple trick they learned from an old timer that just stuck?

My grandpa taught me to always wrap the wire clockwise. You ever see someone go the wrong way and it just unwinds itself?

Man, I felt that. I helped my cousin put up a fence last summer and he went counter-clockwise on the hog rings. We came back the next day and half the wire was just laying in the grass. It was a total mess and we had to redo the whole section. That lesson STICKS with you.

Classic old guy move, making it look easy. @wadem89's grandpa was right, going the wrong way is a rookie mistake that'll haunt you lol.
