Hot take: I swore by the manual for a 737's bleed air valve, but a 3-hour hunt for a leak was solved in 20 minutes by an old head who told me to 'listen for the hiss past the check valve, not at it'.
What finally convinced me was finding the actual leak two feet downstream after I'd already pulled and inspected the primary valve assembly, which was spotless.

Listen for the hiss past the check valve" reminds me of a buddy who spent a day checking a perfectly good fuel pump.

Seriously? That's a huge waste of time.

Follow the manual every time, it stops you from chasing ghosts based on old wives' tales.
