A lead mechanic told me my torque wrench technique was 'building in a future failure' during a C-check. He said I was rushing the final click. I started pausing for a full second after the click and my consistency went way up. Anyone have a different trick for hitting spec every time?

What's your trick for the initial snug-down before torquing?

Snug it up in stages, man. Like for a wheel, I go hand tight, then maybe half the spec in a cross pattern, then the final pull. It keeps everything sitting flat before you really lean on it. That's what I do after seeing @seth_harris36 ask about it. Rushing the snug part can make the final torque feel weird, like you're fighting it. Taking that extra second to stage it out makes the click feel solid every time.

Used to think that pause was pointless, but it really does make the final click feel more solid.
