Warning: tried to air fry frozen chicken wings without patting them dry first

I was at my kitchen counter last Tuesday rushing to get dinner done and threw a bag of frozen wings straight into the basket, ended up with a smoky mess and soggy skin that took 15 extra minutes to crisp up - has anyone figured out a better trick for frozen wings without the extra step of thawing?

Has anyone tried tossing them in a spoonful of baking powder before air frying? It dries the surface without thawing and gives a crunch like deep fried.

Does the baking powder leave any weird aftertaste on the wings?

Honestly, that "weird aftertaste" thing is interesting. Tbh I think most people who notice it are probably just using too much baking powder or not rinsing the wings well after. Ngl it's kind of like how people overdo it with salt in recipes and then blame the ingredient instead of the amount they used. It's a funny pattern in cooking, we always want one single trick to fix everything but the real answer is almost always just balance and not going overboard.
