Dropped $400 on an AI voice cloning tool for my podcast and the output sounded like a robot reading a phone book
I bought it in January after a YouTube demo made it look seamless, but every episode I ran through it came out with weird pauses and mispronounced names, so I'm back to recording live and wondering if anyone here has found a tool under $100 that actually handles natural speech without sounding like a GPS.
Been there man, dropped $250 on one of those clone tools last year for my YouTube channel and it turned every "tomato" into "to-may-toe" with this creepy half second pause in the middle. The worst part was it kept adding breaths in random spots like someone gasping between sentences. I gave up after three videos and just went back to my own voice, even though I hate how I sound. Curious if anything under $100 actually works or if it's all the same garbage in different packaging.
Did the gasping breaths sound like a dying phone battery or more like a horror movie? A buddy of mine grabbed one of those cheap ones off a random site for like $60, and it worked fine for about two weeks until it started slipping into a British accent halfway through his sentences. He never figured out why, just one day the robot woke up and decided it was from London. The weird part was the accent only kicked in on words with the letter R, so half his video sounded like a pirate. He ended up scrapping the whole channel and doing voiceover himself with a pillow over his head to muffle the room echo.
