Just realized I was wrong about cheap CV axles after my front end grenaded
I've been running those $80 CV axles from the local parts store for years on my 2000 Tacoma, and last month on a trip up near Flagstaff the passenger side let go at 45 mph. The boot split and the joint came apart, threw grease everywhere and left me stranded for 3 hours waiting for a tow. I swapped in a set of $220 Trail-Gear axles instead, and after 400 miles they feel way tighter with zero vibration. Has anyone else had better luck spending a little more upfront on these things?

Man that sucks but honestly I've been there too. My buddy swore by those cheap ones for his 4Runner and they lasted like two dirt roads before they started clicking like a broken metronome. Trail-Gear stuff is solid though, I put a set on my old Jeep and they took a beating without complaining. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for with CVs.

Grease them every oil change and they'll double the lifespan.
