Tbh clearing out physical clutter literally reduces the cognitive load, so your mind isn't subconsciously tracking all that visual noise. It's like you're doing a walking, tangible version of the mental release exercises. Ngl my own basement cleanup last month had the same effect, where tossing old boxes felt as relieving as concluding a long breathing session. The physical act just grounds the abstract practice.
