Honestly, throwing together leftovers is more satisfying than any planned dinner, and that's my tiny victory.

Okay but @johnl87, planned dinners don't have to feel like a chore either. Sometimes following a recipe exactly is its own kind of fun, you know?

It's like a fun little cooking puzzle where you make something good from random bits. There's real pride in looking at a full meal you built from what was about to go bad. Planned dinners can feel like a chore, but a leftover scramble is pure creativity. You end up with combos you'd never try otherwise, and they're often the best thing you eat all week. It turns avoiding waste into the most rewarding part of your day.

My buddy Steve once threw together some cold roasted potatoes, a handful of spinach, and the last two slices of ham from a deli tray. He said it sounded like a terrible idea but he was just too tired to go to the store. He ended up making a kind of hash with a fried egg on top, and he still talks about how it was one of the best meals he's had. There's something about those thrown together plates that just hits different. It feels like you beat the system somehow.
