Rant: My hike with compostable gear made me see both the green side and the hassle
It saves waste but breaks easy, so is it really better for the planet in the long run?

Ugh, this hits home... I tried those compostable bags once and they tore just loading my pack. If stuff falls apart after one trip, you're just buying replacements way more often. That whole making and shipping cycle might create more junk than it saves. Feels like we need stuff that lasts a decent while to actually help.

If stuff falls apart after one trip, shouldn't we still support alternatives that reduce long-term waste?

But hold on, I mean, isn't the whole point to push for better options? Yeah, those bags might tear now, but if we all give up, nothing gets better. Companies need to see people want this stuff so they make it stronger. Idk, maybe it's just me but a few broken bags now could mean less plastic in landfills later. The making and shipping thing is a problem, but so is sticking with trash that lasts forever. We gotta start somewhere, even if it's messy at first.
