My 2009 ThinkPad finally boots again after a 2 year nap
Found my old T400 in a drawer last week, dead as a doornail. Battery was swollen, so I pulled it out and checked the RAM and CMOS battery, both were fine. Turns out the BIOS had somehow reset to a weird date and the hard drive was just confused, so I cleared the settings and it fired right up. Runs like a champ, sure beats paying $300 for a new laptop. Anyone else nursing a decade-old machine back to life? How long did yours sit before you resurrected it?
Tbh I used to roll my eyes at people who kept old laptops around, figured they were just hoarding junk. Then my mom's 2011 MacBook died last year and I swapped the drive and threw in new RAM for like 40 bucks, and it's still going strong for her email and Facebook. That thing sat in a closet for almost 3 years before I even touched it. Now I get why people bother, it's way cheaper and these old machines were built to last.
