TIL most folks in our guild think letting family near the furnace is a bad idea

My uncle let me watch him blow glass when I was fifteen. I always thought family would just mess things up near the furnace. Then my niece asked to learn last year. She paid close attention and did exactly what I showed her. Now when we work together, I set up faster and she helps with the punties. It totally changed my mind about having family around hot glass.

Glad to see more people trying this. @joseph_ellis85 seemed happy about it too. What made you decide to give your brother a chance with the punties? Safety must have been a big concern at first. How did you make sure he knew what to do without getting hurt? Trust probably built up fast once he showed he could listen.
