Lost a client lunch meeting over a burnt casserole.
Sometimes a simple sandwich beats a fancy homemade dish for impressing clients.

Used to go all out trying to impress with homemade appetizers for my partner's work friends. Honestly, one time I completely ruined some fancy stuffed mushrooms and the whole night was just awkward. Now I just order a really good cheese plate or get fancy takeout. Ngl, simple and reliable wins every time.

But I've always found that the risk of homemade stuff is part of what makes it special. Sure, you might flub a dish now and then, but people remember the effort more than a perfect cheese plate. In my experience, those awkward moments often turn into funny stories later. Giving up on cooking for guests feels like missing out on a real connection, you know? Your mileage may vary, but I'd say try again with something simpler you can't mess up.

Burnt food is embarrassing but did it really tank a business deal? Harper_White has a point about people remembering the effort.
