Showerthought: I spent 6 hours on a 2-foot section of herringbone in a Seattle entryway

The client wanted a perfect transition from the entry to the living room, but the subfloor had a weird dip right at the threshold. I must have pulled up and re-set those pieces a dozen times before I finally got it flush. What's your go-to method for dealing with an unexpected floor dip in the middle of a pattern?

Been there! I'll use a bit of self-leveler for small dips, but it's always a pain to spot.

Yeah, self-leveler felt like the only way for a long time. Then I saw someone use a long straight edge and a flashlight... totally changed how I find those little dips now.

Tell me about it, I spent years pouring self-leveler before seeing @robinson.hannah's trick.
