Rapid-set mortar is not the time-saver everyone claims it is
It sets too fast for proper alignment on complex layouts.

Learned this the hard way during a DIY backsplash job. The stuff set up so fast I had tiles stuck at weird angles before I could adjust them. Now my kitchen has a permanent wave that would make a surfer jealous. What's the trick for keeping things aligned without rushing like a maniac?

My friend Paul's bathroom reno looks drunk, all thanks to that mortar.

Yeah, mortar can really mess things up. I used to think you could just slap it on and adjust later, but that's wrong. One time I helped a friend with a floor tile job and the mortar set in like 10 minutes. We ended up with a hump in the middle of the room. @the_stella's story about the backsplash wave is exactly what I mean. Now I always mix small batches and work in sections.
