Honestly, I thought those plastic floor spacers were a gimmick until a job in Austin where the humidity made the planks swell overnight and my old wedge method failed completely.

Ngl, I was convinced they were a waste of money, but after seeing a perfect 3/8-inch gap hold firm on that whole main floor while the wood moved, I'm never going back to cut-up cardboard again.

Yeah, that's the thing... I've had cardboard compress on me when the floor got heavy foot traffic before the trim went on. Did you find the plastic ones actually stayed put, or did they ever slide out on you when you were working across the room?

Reminds me of the time my spacers got glued in by accident lol.

The plastic ones can slide if the subfloor isn't perfectly clean. I started putting a tiny dab of subfloor adhesive on the bottom of each spacer. That trick has kept every single one in place for me.
