Pro tip: An old timer in Bend told me my clinches were too tight
Honestly, I was trimming a horse for a client there about eight years back and he just watched me for a minute. He said, 'Kid, you're squeezing the life out of that hoof wall, back off a full turn.' I started leaving just a bit more space, and I swear I see fewer cracked heels now. Anyone else get a piece of advice that seemed small but made a big difference?

Back off a full turn? That's wild to me, the margin for error must be so tiny. I was always taught to get them as snug as possible, no daylight. The idea that a full rotation could be the difference between a good clinch and a cracked heel is kind of blowing my mind. Makes you realize how much of this work is just feel.
