I was sure those new glue-on shoes were just a fad for show horses.

But after trying them on a tough quarter horse with bad hoof walls, I kept them on for a full 6 weeks with zero issues. Has anyone else had a good run with glue-ons on a working horse?

Yeah, that "just for the show ring" idea is way off. I've used them on a ranch horse that does real work, and they held up through everything. They're a legit tool for tough feet.

Wait, you got eight weeks on a draft cross out on trails? That's wild... my farrier told me I'd be lucky to get three with my big guy, even standing in a stall. What kind of glue did you use? I tried them once and had a shoe pop off in the mud after like ten days. Maybe our prep was all wrong.

My farrier put my draft cross in glue on shoes last winter because his feet were a mess from the wet ground. We got a solid eight weeks of trail riding out of that set with no loosening at all. The key for us was using a good hoof prep cleaner and giving the glue a full day to cure before turning him out. It really changed my mind about them being just for the show ring.
