I switched from a standard rasp to a diamond-coated one for my final passes and it cut my finishing time by about 15 minutes per horse, no joke.
I was skeptical about the cost, but after trying it on a tough quarter crack last week, the smoothness was unreal and now I won't go back, so has anyone found a specific brand that holds up better than others?

My old farrier swore by those diamond rasps for making quick work of a nasty hoof wall.

Honestly, how long did it take you to get used to the feel of it? I was the same way about the price, I thought it was a total gimmick. Then I had a super dry, brittle hoof that just shredded with my regular rasp. Borrowed a buddy's diamond one as a last try and it was like cutting butter. The finish was so clean right away. I had to eat my words and buy my own.

My buddy had this old draft horse with hooves like concrete. He fought with a normal rasp for an hour, just dust and frustration. Finally grabbed a diamond one from his truck. Said the difference was insane, it actually bit into the hoof and took real strips off. He got the whole thing shaped in like twenty minutes. Totally changed his mind about spending the money.
