Figured out a trick for handling hot shoe issues on draft horses last month
I was out on a job in Lancaster county a few weeks back and had a belgian draft horse that was really fighting me on the left hind. The shoe was getting hot and the farrier before me had just slapped on a standard rim pad. I pulled it off and swapped to a leather pad with a full wedge and it cooled right down. The owner said I saved them a vet call they were already planning. Anyone else see big differences between leather and synthetic pads on the heavy breeds?

My buddy had a Percheron that wouldn't stop pulling a shoe until he tried leather.

Have you tried boiling the shoes first?

Man, @hunt.nora's really trying to turn this into a full cooking project.
