My coffee spill almost erased a childhood memory

Last week, I was baking my grandmother's apple pie and spilled coffee on her handwritten note! It was a heart-stopping moment. I quickly blotted it, but the ink smudged a bit. Now I make sure to take photos of all my old cooking instructions. That pie always takes me back to sunny afternoons in her kitchen.

Prefer the smudged ink, honestly. It adds to the story of the recipe, like a coffee stain timeline. My grandma's notes have butter stains and penciled corrections, and that's what makes them real. Photos just freeze a moment, but the wear and tear show it was loved.

Totally! My friend's mom cried when she found her own mom's gravy-stained recipe card.

Wow, I always thought you had to keep recipes perfect in photos. But the idea that stains show they were actually used really clicks with me now.
