Used to think speed walking was just for old folks in malls

I spent years rolling my eyes at the power walkers at the park near my apartment in Denver. Then I tore my meniscus playing pickup basketball and my PT told me to start with brisk walking. After 6 weeks of doing 2 miles every morning, I actually get it now. The pace lets you think clearly and it's way harder than you'd expect. Anyone else flip their opinion on something they used to make fun of?

The first time I tried it I was at the Walmart parking lot in Lakewood and this guy in cargo shorts just zipped past me like I was standing still. I mean I was walking normal, not even dawdling, and he had this whole arm swinging thing going on. Made me realize I've been walking wrong my whole life. Now whenever I see someone speed walking I just think about that guy and his incredible pace.

That's fair, but honestly I still can't get on board with the arm swinging thing. Looks like you're swatting invisible bees or something. Speed walking in a straight line I get, but the full body motion just feels like you're trying too hard when you could just jog.

Nah you're actually spot on with this one. People sleep on how fast power walkers can move. I see them flying past joggers all the time on the trail near my house. The real mistake is thinking it's easy just because you're not running. Get a proper heel-toe roll and you'll feel your glutes on fire. Also way easier on your joints than pounding pavement.
