Just realized my dog has been training me for years

About three years ago, I got a rescue mutt named Beans. Every single morning, he does this specific whine to go out. I jump up. He gets a treat after his walk. I thought I was the boss. Last week, I was running late and tried to skip the walk. Beans just sat by the door and stared. I gave in. That's when it hit me. He didn't need to go out. He had me on a perfect schedule. The whine, the stare, the treat routine. All his design. I'm not the owner. I'm the highly trained staff. Has anyone else had a pet completely reverse the roles on them?

Oh man, this is so true. It's not just pets. My coffee maker beeps and I get up. My phone dings and I check it. @jake_torres68's cat and your dog just prove we're all in these little systems. We think we're in charge, but we're just following the prompts all day. My whole life feels like responding to the next alarm or notification.

My cat has me trained to open cans at the exact same time every night (it's a little embarrassing).

Hey @jake_torres68, I don't see it as embarrassing at all! You just have a good routine going with your cat. That's just being a reliable pet owner.
