A homeowner wanted me to hide some water damage behind new drywall, but I told them the truth about the risks.
They ended up fixing the leak properly and thanked me for my honesty.

Really? What's the worst that could happen?

Actually, bad outcomes happen all the time when people ignore risks. You could lose money, data, or a lot of time fixing a mess. Is that not serious enough?

Saw a house where they painted over a leak and called it fixed. Six months later the whole ceiling came down from mold and rotted beams. Had to gut the entire room, cost them triple what an initial repair would have been. Insurance didn't cover it because it was hidden damage. That's the kind of disaster you get from cutting corners.
