Spent $400 on a new cutterhead for my dredge and it cut my fuel bill by 30% in 2 months
I always ran the old worn out cutterhead because I figured it still got the job done. Buddy at the yard in Gary kept telling me to swap it out. Finally did and now the engine isn't lugging down as much. Should have done it years ago. Anyone else see a big difference after replacing worn parts?

Bet that worn cutterhead was costing you more in fuel than a new one all along.

Counterpoint, buying a new cutterhead is a pretty big upfront cost, and some people just don't have the cash flow to drop on one right now. The extra fuel might still be cheaper than a monthly payment on a new unit, especially if you're only running the machine a few hours a week. A worn one is still cutting, so you're not down time, and sometimes that's what matters more than perfect efficiency.

Exactly this. A worn cutterhead forces the machine to work way harder to get the same results, so you're burning through extra fuel without even realizing it. The savings from better fuel efficiency alone can cover the cost of a new one pretty quick. Plus you get better cut quality and less wear on the rest of the drivetrain too.
