Had to pick between a $70 pre-cut shelf kit or building my own for the garage, went with the kit and it's actually solid.

Look at what Jessica's brother did, he put in all that work and it ended up looking like the store-bought kit anyway. Feels like the "fun" is mostly just a story we tell ourselves to feel better about the sore back. If the end result is the same, maybe the building part isn't that big of a deal.

My brother spent a whole weekend building a custom one, and it looks exactly like the kit from the hardware store.
